Armageddon’s Children Audiobook is the first story in Terry Brooks’ fantasy trilogy entitled Genesis of Shannara, which bridges the events of Brooks’ Word/Void trilogy with his Shannara series.

It takes place in an apocalyptic world around the year 2100 (about eighty years after the novel Angel Fire East) and details the events during the Great Wars, a historical conflict referenced frequently in the Shannara books. It is followed by the novel The Elves of Cintra.

The Genesis of Shannara is the title of a series of novels written by Terry Brooks. Three books in this series, “Armageddon’s Children, The Elves of Cintra and The Gypsy Morph” are both a prequel to the other Shannara audiobooks and a sequel to the Word and the Void. That said, it doesn’t draw too heavily on the other series, and you could easily read it and enjoy it even if you’ve never read a Terry Brooks book before.

Plot Summary

Logan Tom is doomed to remember the past and determined to rescue the future. Far behind him lies a boyhood cut violently short by his family’s slaughter, when the forces of madness and hate swept our world after decadent excesses led to civilization’s downfall.

Somewhere ahead of him rests the only chance to beat back the minions of evil that are systematically killing and enslaving the last remnants of humanity. Audiobook review

If you’ve never listened to a Terry Brooks novel, then I don’t advise you to start here. Armageddon’s Children Audiobook Mp3 is set sometime after The Word & The Void Trilogy and sometime before The Sword of Shannara.

This book focuses on four separate storylines: Logan Tom, Angel, Kirisin, and Hawk. The world has been pretty much destroyed and the demons are leading the once men in the destruction of the human race. Through this audiobook, you watch each of the three main characters and separate quests to either helped mankind or a group they are supporting. There are also several chapters where main characters have flashbacks, which help you relate to the characters.

The story revolves around three such would-be saviors and the authors take care to unfold their backstories in a kind of deferred flashback process, where the listener is fed small tantalizing morsels of each of these characters along the way, which I enjoyed.

Dick Hill provides an excellent narration of the story, from clearly differentiating between genders, demons and heroes.
